we've got TrickyRic and you can allready see why. the guy nows a lot and doesn't have the ego that some mods can have.

...thanks for that . i wouldn't say i know any more than others here though. everyone has an area, and mines more in the general side rather than database/api/etc... i guess i'm just lucky more questions are related to programming/vb in general rather than other areas .

maybe the rankings should be gotten rid of because, not necesarily here but in other places people sometimes to try and pull rank, or make try and make people look inferior. I think we should all be equal.

usually i'm against ranks, simply because of the spamming problem already mentioned, and that newbies tend to get flamed. in this forum though, i dont see newbies ever being flamed, simply because its them that give us posts to reply to .

the spamming problem will always be an issue, but so far i dont see anything. i guess only time will tell.

Hi,

Perhaps for a ranking system to work, it should only apply to parts of the forum where help is required/given. So in parts like general discussion, feedback etc, you would not be ranked and would in the case of this forum take longer to become say a 'supreme being'.

There could in this forum be the option to rate help given, so that if you get an answer to a question, you can then rate it on say a scale of 1-5 of how helpful it is. A1 could then use this information to determine a persons ranking. Still not infallable but just an idea anyway.

The other thing I noticed with the old forums is that people would reply to a thread to say they didn't know the answer or couldn't help, I guess it was a way of making conversation, but in the case of this forum it kind of unjustifiably ups your ranking just because you are active but not necessarily helpful. Not trying to offend anyone here - it's just an observation

Anyway - enough of my rambling, I can't say I have any other ideas at the minute rather the couple of observations above.

Enjoy

A

hey guys.

I may not be a popular member, but I am a regular visitor of this forum..So i have also observed something .Yes Andy even I concur at this point that unlike the old forum , here people remain active irrespective of actually helping. No offence please.I am not offending anybody please.

Above all I believe that we should all be equal as Mark said.Afterall a newbie today may become an vb expert tomorrow.I don't really think there has to be a ranking system. The quality of reply speaks for itself. Even willingness to help is also a great deal like once specifically James asked me what printing thing I was asking for.

Bye

respectively, i can argue both sides, im sure all of us can.
i agree with what you guys said, its quite acurate. but remember the reason we have these rankings, simply because we wanted our forums to "attract" more people, there is an upside and a downside. if everybody here is really serious about this topic(including mods), i say we all come to a slight agreement and come up with a way to help both side of the argument, and then vote on it. just an idea..
