I have to produce a custom control in ASP.net which is a site counter, does anybody know of any websites that could be beneficial, or any ideas as to how I could approach this

If you wanted to base it off of one hit per IP address, you might want to involve databases, but if not, just use a textfile and increment it everytime the page loads. Not that hard. There are a lot of textfile reading threads on A1, check em out.
