I would like to see a section on programming (concepts, ideas, algorithm, etc). This doesn't seem like a topic for the chat. The other sections are for code.

this sounds like a great learning tool. I'm all for it OT: I didn't want to bump this topic off the main thread so I'll post here. I reread the forum rules and it seems vague in the department of letting folks know that we are not here to help do homework or school projects, college assignments, etc. Is there any way to be more specific, because half of what I read any more are requests for homework, or hidden attempts - until you read the space wasting file upload attachment to post that reads assignment.zip So Brian, may I humbly request that rules be updated to include something to that effect? And if possible maybe allowing another mod to join, like someone with 500 or more posts (Booooze would make a good one), because I think more moderators could help thwart bogus posts and even delete them so I and others don't feel like we're spinning wheels, and it won't be any great loss to A1vbcode forum to lose pso, but I'm thinking on cashing in my chips for this very reason. I don't want to simply because I feel at home here this past year, but with trickyRic gone and the lack of communication with mod amd member, it seems like the house is getting overrun, while at same time seems kinda empty. sincerely pso.

pso, I sort of agree with you. I don't think it's a lack between mod and member, I think it's a lack between admin and member, and member and member. The only people I really know anything about (who actually still come here) is pso, and mark skaines. I know DOS, but I dont see him much. I'm talking about the regulars. I know Mark is a regular, and I know he is insanely brilliant and godlike when it comes to vb, but I don't know him off the forums. Although many people (everywhere on forums) always try to keep the conversation on the forums, so they don't like people talking and asking for help over IM's, I get lots of emails, and lots of people adding me over msn and such for help. It does take away from the forums, but most of the time they post anyways, the thing is, they never come back. Pso says this place is like home, and it is. I have never been on a forum this long before, and never would have come this far without it. I learned much more than just vb on this forum. This may feel like home, but it has an emptiness feeling. I understand why people only post once and leave- it seems empty, and they are partially right. We need dedicated members. People feel much comfortable if they know where they are. There is a code of conduct, and that's it. Be nice. But are there rules? no. We were supposed to put them up when this forum started, but it never happened. The reason this place is "empty" is because there doesn't seem to be authority. I haven't seen an admin post forever. Ric is gone, so we have no mod(s), and there is no news on the front page. It's too empty. I've gone over this so many times. The Chat forum is a desert, and the only thing that gets posted in is the general vb (and sometimes game programming). People don't post db questions in the db forum, so what's the point of having it? Same goes with the com and activex. If we have a mod or mods, then we can settle this place, and be alittle more organized. We would have people who stay, and it wouldnt seem empty. Also, sometimes, its nice when your post actually gets recognized... i asked if we could extend the signature, and I havent heard anythign about that (it was simple too). I think what this place lacks is communication. Would you rather walk into a room full of people talking? or a room full of people standing around who want help, but are afraid to talk? anyways... I've rambled on a lot, and it is off topic. peace

I regualarly(once a day) vist the codeyourself forums and they seem busier than this one. I agree with you guys that its the lack of authority and lack of communictation that has caused this I also think it's the problem of having moderated forums so people have to wait to view their posts. All admins on this forum are based in canada which is a big middle finger to people outside canadian time zone. Why wate 2 possibly 3 hours before your post can actually be seen when you can go to xtremevb and get an answer instantaneously. The major probelm is paranoia how much spam or illegitemate posts did we really have on the old forums?? Shouldn't you guys start either considering more mods or removing the 3 post moderating thing. yeah, the other thing is the activation link. if you look up how many users are still waiting to be activated, its because they didnt bother to click the link, probably because they had already found there answer on some other forum. I go to the codeyourself forums sometimes, but there doesnt seem to be much activity there... am i wrong?

That's because CodeYourself is new. Takes some time to get a base established. I like this forum and CodeYourself because you can get some good answers. I belong to extreamvbtalk and have asked questions there. In about an hour if it hasn't been answered it has scrolled off the front page. They are too big. You have just as many smart programers on these two forums as anywhere else. Don't go away, pso.

I love to have lots of posts, adn lots of people. There are forums, that when you go to them, they have like 50 users on in the past 20 minutes. True, that is big, but i'd personally prefer to be part of a big community like tat, but because of teh fact taht its so hard to fit in when they already become that big, is what me not stay. Because I've been here since these new forums started (and before that, but not as long as others), is why I'll stay. As for CodeYourself, I was/am supposed to do a redesign in the summer for it. I have a fair amount of tutorials written, but never actually put them up. I'm not really part of it anmore either...lol. Whether or not I'll go back, I don't know. This is way off topic
