Hello all, Im curious about how much you actually like the language your coding in.

Might be a stupid question but if you could switch language as in you're a real professional with Visual Basic 6, would you like to trade that amount of knowledge for an equal amount of knowledge in another language?

I have some complete basic OS sources in C with some Assembly, I could give it to you if you want to. But I don't think you'll learn much, if you need any help regarding creating an OS in C/ASM feel free to ask me. Smile

Well I've been using the original VB for 13 years so can you guess which one I prefer?

I don't like the option Visual Basic Series because that can cover all parts of VB which includes VB.Net which is an option on its own.

I start with Basic 27 years ago with my first computer BBC Model B 32K (Acorn) with BBC Basic in 1982. When I bought an IBM compatible in 1993 I used Qbasic for few years. I needed a Windows programming language. I searched about and talked to people and they recommended VC++, which I bought VC++ v1.51 for £90. It was a difficult language to come to terms with, having been used to Basic for 27 years in its different forms. So I managed to get a pirate copy of VB4. Because our computers at work were Windows 3.1 I started with VB4 16bit. It was an easy language to follow because it follows Basic very closely.

5 years ago I download Visual Studio 6.0 from a site that isn't available anymore. I installed VC++ 6.0 to see if it had improved. No it hadn't, it was still difficult to follow. I bought books and CD's to help me out but they weren't much help. Perhaps I'm spoiled by the simplicity if VB, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.  Wink

Keith

I've been programming with VB for 17 years. Started with VB4 16bit Pro, VB5 Pro, VB6 Pro/Enterprise and now VB3 Pro. But I'm no expert, I'm still learning.

ok ill take you up on that offerBigGrin

I started to learn ASM and I was starting to understand some of it like I had and idea what some of the functions were and how to use a couple of functions for the bios because I was trying to make a boot loader but with school and all I kinda been slacking on it so I will have to read the papers that I printed to get some of the info back lol.
