Hi,

How do you single space the lines

instead of double spacing

like what has happened here.

Nothing I do seems to work,

it's driving me nuts as it makes replies much longer

than they need to be

Enjoy

Hi,

The ENTER key causes a double space. Only use it when you require a new paragraph. If you wish, you can alter the HTML by clicking the HTML button at the bottom of the reply box and change the <p> tags to <br> to create single spacing.

note i find the o/s and browser effect the formatting for some reason. for example, when i post from linux using mozilla 0.7, the text appears tiny. when i post from linux using konkueror, it appears in a kind of... rounded font (that could be different for those without linux fonts). but when i post from windows in mozilla firefox 0.9.2, it looks just like this message does .

anyway, to sum all that up, its likely your o/s or browser is using its own html formatting in your post. i find from linux i can't even make a line break without editing the html manually, yet from windows it looks perfect.

unix requires both ascii 10 and 13 to create a line break btw, where windows uses ascii 13 as both carriage return AND line feed. that may not be of any use to you but its kinda related to the topic so...

If you want
to write
short lines without
having them double
spaced, then hold
the Shift key while
you press Enter.

Or
Highlight
all
the
text
and
select
'definition term'
in
the
style
combo.

Thanks guys, I've been away from it all for a couple of weeks but read this just now after I got frustrated with trying to reply to a post with a code example.

Brian:

I'm not a HTML guru and not sure what you meant. Where do you go to change the setting to single line spacing?

Enjoy

Dreamweaver does the same double line spacing and holding shift works there. Thank you Mark as I have been writing site content in Word and pasting it into DW to get arround this issue.

Cheers Dude

andy: if you click to edit your post you'll see all line breaks have been replaced with tags. for me these are all <br> tags, but for some this will be <p></p> tags. for example, if i type..

hello
world

...this gets converted to...

hello<br>world

...but for you this might be...

<p>hello</p><p>world</p>

...in which case you'll need to edit it to look like mine .
