for starters, get good with vb overall. make sure you can read and write db's and/or text files. learn how to get input etc. you just need the very basics, as game programming itself will teach you alot, that will help you with whatever you are doing. Make sure you know how to get input (mouse clicks, keyboard events, etc.). use them on picture boxes, and image boxes. move the boxes back and forth:p. That's the basics. moving images back and forth, is basicly the start of game programming. If you want extra help, add mt to msn, aim, or yahoo. my icq doesnt work. my primary chat is msn. . If not, post back here. Tell me what you know.

In addition to learning programing language, you need to understand and follow game design and logic. Here are some sites to help you with this:

http://www.vancouver.wsu.edu/fac/peabody/game-book/Coverpage.html

http://www.lupinegames.com/articles/essgames.htm

http://www.gamedev.net/reference/list.asp?categoryid=23

It is difficult and takes a lot of time to learn. Stick with it and start with a small game.

Good point. Although I don't think it's incredibly important at this point, and usually people can figure that stuff out on there on, but none the less, still a good post.

I bought Visual Basic 6 for dummies like a week ago, but it dosent explain well how the code works or where to put it.A lot of times, it will throw random lines of code at me, but doesent tell were to put it, hence it dosent work. it talks a lot about how the progam's interface works but dosent go too much into the code. if any of you guys know of any really good visual basic6 books for beginner/intermediates, let me know.

Personally, I'd advise you not to start learning VB6 as really theres no point. I would suggest either vb.Net but that is costly if u dont have a copy or java which is free.

If you seriously want to program games, Visual Basic is not the language to do it. You really want C or C++, maybe Java. Visual Basic is not good with graphics, especially moving graphics.
