I am nearly brand new to ActiveX and even VB but am learning....I've used VB scripting is all. I know this sound kind of dumb but i have a need to know what the current/active window a user has open...(The window name). I imagine it would be easy but I am not sure where to start. I would like to see how it would be created. I am beginning to get how standard Vb forms work but I don't get how the properties/methods and all that get created for the "end user". I appreciate anyones help.....

Need a control that can display HTML formatted text

Hi! everybuddy

I am writing a chat program in VB6.0 to integrate it with my database application (which is a desktop application in VB6.0) so that clients can communicate with me for help from within my application.

I want to display the chat text in html formatted way just like yahoo, yazak or msn does.

I tried peeping into yazak messenger window using Spy++ and found the class of the control used for displaying chat text to be "Internet Explorer_Server".

I tried adding webbrowser control and HTML Object Liabray's Scriplet control to my project but cudn't find a way to add text to these controls. Finally I tried the DHTML Safe and DHTML Edit controls and that worked exactly as i wanted (ie; i cud add html text to these controls at run time and also display animated gifs) but i couldn't lock these controls. Also these both controls don't have any properties like ENABLED or LOCKED
resulting the contents of these control to be altered by users.

I want to make sure that "Am i using the right control to solve my purpose?"
or is there any other control available specially to meet this scenario?

User Defined Control - Properties dialogs, lists, etc. (VB6)

I am creating a user defined control containing a text box and a label. The text box has special functionality, which does not relate to my question. (Thankfully, that part works.) I want to include most of the properties from the label and text box as properties of the control.

I would like to know how to have the Properties panel provide drop down lists for some properties (such as "Alignment", for instance), dialog windows for other properties (such as "Font"), and special interfaces (such as the drop-down tab list functionality of "BackColor") which exist in the Properties panel for a regular text box control. So far my control requires a user to remember values and enter them manually, which is not very user friendly.

I'm new to this forum today. I appreciate suggestions. Thanks.

Variant Arrays

I have a COM object that i wrote a few years ago in delphi which requires a variant array to be passed in and a variant array to receive the results.

VB.net now does not support the type Variant, for which i have tried to declare an array of type object, but the COM object rejects this saying Exception Details: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Variant is not an array

Is there anyway round this using vb.net or c#.net? as i dont want to have to re-write the com server as it is highly complicated.

On my old computer, I had a MScomm control from which I used to capture some data coming from a phone box. Everything worked great. When I got a new computer, It doesn't work. I get the following error 'The device is not open' . On my old computer, I used port 1 but on this new computer when I try to use port 1, it says 'Envalid port number' The only port I can use is port 3 and then I get a 'The device is not open' error message. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

How to close VB ActiveX DLL?

Hello,

I have a program that is compiled as ActiveX DLL. This application is being invoked from JavaScript.

How should I exit (or close, or end) ActiveX DLL application?

Right now, when I close ActiveX window, everything appears to be working. But, DLL file remains to be locked. In order to delete or replace it, I need to reboot the machine.

Please advice.

Hi all,

I tried to unregister a particular "ocx" file i am getting "Exception occurred" Error. I unregitered the ocx by using API's.

The steps i did for Unregistering

1) Get the handle for the file using LoadLibrary(<filename>

2) Get the function pointer using GetProcAddress(handle,"DllUnregisterServer")

3) calling the function pointer. But it returns the "hr" value as "-2147352567"

But it unregister the specified ocx when I looked on Registry Entries.

please help me on how to debug the vb component "DllUnregisterServer" function

DTPicker focus problem

I have added DTPicker control in my program. I have set its format to dd/MM/yyyy.
If the focus is on "yyyy" and DTPicker loses focus and gets it back, the focus goes directly to "yyyy". So, how to get focus always on "dd"?

I use DTPicker in one of my projects. It is in MSCOMCT2.OCX. But the problem is MSCOMCT2.OCX is a large file (646 Kb) to deploy in a package.

So is there any good/small DTPicker ActiveX control? I know it is available but I want to use something which has been tested thoroughly.

I am looking for a way to generate the list of available properties of each control picked just like it does in the IDE. I can set up a database and list all the properties but I am hoping there is a better way to do this with code.

User Defined Control - Adding to Components

I am creating a user defined control and have been testing it, which requires adding it to the components list, which I do as follows:

Project --> Components... --> "Browse..." button on "Controls" tab --> "Add ActiveX Control" dialog

The .ocx resides in the folder where I am creating the code. It is not registered. I add the component from the "Components" dialog window to my tools so I can put it on a form with other controls to test. The testing is fine. The problem is that every instance of me adding the control to the "Components" dialog remains in the list on the dialog. How do I get rid of the old instances and how to I keep this from happening?

I'm new to this forum today. I appreciate suggestions. Thanks.

Custom Control

I've created a custom control using the MSFlexGrid as the base control. I've added navigation and editing capabilities, etc.

My problem is when I use it in a project and I move from a textbox to the custom control using the tab key. My control will not receive the focus when the tab key is pressed the first time to leave the textbox.

I've added code to the Text1 LostFocus event to make my custom grid receive the focus. I've gone so far as to assign the Col and Row numbers before and after using the Setfocus for my control.

When I tab off of the textbox nothing has the focus. I can use shift tab to move back to the textbox. When I leave the textbox for the second and subsequent times, the custom control receives the focus as expected.

I know that nothing else has the focus as I have only 2 controls which can receive focus. The first time I tab off of the textbox I can tab back into the textbox. When I next tab to the custom grid, the custom grid now has the focus and I cannot tab back to the textbox. This proves that nothing has the the focus after the initial tab off of the textbox. This is the behavior I expect after the initial tab off of the textbox.

I expect and so would the client, that when they click the tab key once they should be able to use the up and down arrow keys to navigate the grid. This is possible once the custom grid has the focus.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Messages sent by a VB6 application return undelivered if email client is Outlook 2003

In my vb6 application I use two controls:
a MAPISession control named "POSTA"
a MAPIMessages control named "INVIAPREV"
the following is the code used to send a message with an attachment. (sorry for variable names and control names in italian)

The application has been in use for over 2 years and the code works perfectly if the default email client is Outlook Express or Outlook 2000.
When the default email client is Outlook 2003 the message returns undelivered.
The message is displayed before is sent.
Normally, right clicking the recipient address of a message about to be sent the context menu contains the item "Outlook Properties"
in the case of the message generated by my application, instead, the context menu contains an item "Properties" instead of the standard "Outlook Properties"
the properties displayed by a normal message ("Outlook Properties") are the following

Email: tuo@analisifinanziaria.it
Email Type: SMTP
Internet Type: "Send in RTF Outlook format"

In the case of the message displayed by my application the properties are

Email Type: TUO@ANALISIFINANZIARIA.IT
Internet Type: "Send in RTF Outlook format"

If the message is sent as it is it will return undelivered.
I can manually correct the email type by clicking the button "internet type" and changing the type in "SMTP" after which the message is regularly dispatched.
I have no idea on how to make the same correction programmatically.
It is very important for me to solve this problem.

Hey there all, im new to the site hopefully it will provide great knowledge.

I cant seem to find anything on the net regarding having BLUETOOTH SIGNAL STRENGTH within my VB.NET application. Im sending data via bluetooth dongle to another dongle, i just wanted to show the signal strength and ive heard that windows stores this value somewhere but im not sure at all how to access it.

any1 got any ideas?
