A1 is my favorite VB site...

and I will tell you why. It seems like every-other VB site I come across has it's VB 6 and earlier code mixed with the VB.NET and later code. If it's not that, you have to do all kinds of crazy stuff just to download a snippet of code. I can not stand that, and it drives me up the walls. I am happy to join this site. This site has already provided me with a huge amount of useful code. I am here to stay. Thank you for creating this site.

Hey everyone, we all know what a great asset Keith is to this forum. So let the Mods know that making him a Moderator can and will make their jobs easier, and can only result in a better and more active forum. I'm certain that Keith will bring more than just his VB knowledge to the job as a Moderator. I think he has what it takes to generate the kind of traffic that's on VBNet!

It's no secret that I consider Keith my mentor and friend. Keith has never let that get in the way of telling me that I'm not paying attention though!

Keith is a good teacher, and he is willing to devote his spare time to the betterment of A1. So lets hear from you, and vote to make Keith a Moderator by answering this post!!

Why do we have to post a reply in order to activate the 'Topic Subscription Notification Type' option menu? There are instances when I can't input any help on a topic, but would like to follow the thread anyway.

Links Should Pop-Up In A New Window

On all the forums that I usually visit when you click on a link the link will open in a new window. Not here. I always forget when I am here that they open in the same window, so I click on one and instead of clicking back, I just close it because I am so used to that. But I don't know. I don't come here much anyway, but I think they should open in a new window.

hi ..
anyone can help me?
i have problem with my programme..
in form prcuba_f301, when i select bulan, then click ok,
it shows all the below details..
then, whena i click kemaskini button,(which is edit button), and i key in gred A, B, C and D,
after i key in gred D, i enter, it didnt go to next record..
it still remains at matapelajaran: 011 - Bahasa Melayu - Pemahaman
it suppose to go to next record which is matapelajaran: 012 - Bahasa Melayu - Penulisan..
and so on...
can anyone help me to solve this problem..
urgently need help..

From what I can see the forum software would be approx on the level of the Invision 1.2 release, which was pretty cool to use. So self written or not? Also possible to get another skin/style/template as this one looks right out of the box. Cool smilies though (you need more).

With all the data you can collect from the forum posts there must be a million things you could do. Check it out:

Stats for the person with most posts in a given period
A user rating system for people to rate the helpfulness of a specific post
A tracking system to determine who has the greatest contribution to a thread becoming a hot topic
Have contests for people who hit certain levels in the above categories and send them, say, a coupon for $5 off anything on the breakfast menu at Waffle House

I had a lot more ideas earlier at work, but I am not there now and left everything where it was.

Message Viewing Issues

hello -

perhaps the answer to this was posted in a obscure area of the forums, but i wouldn't know since i haven't searched. but...

...is anyone else noticing an increased occurrance of messages that are not wrapping when viewed? to me they show up on one line and i have to scroll way over to get to the end.. no carriage returns at all.

what's up with that?

secondary note to mods and/or site-op(s):

bring back the part of the old forum where, when you were replying to a message, the original message still loomed above, giving you a reference on what you were replying to. now i either have to 1) quote my reply and then delete the quote when i am done or 2) open a new browser window, one to show the original message and one for my typing window (this, of course, only applies to posts too large for short-term memory =P).

As more and more newbies are coming to A1VBCode, this site needs to add more Closed Threads. Those "closed threads" should contain basic Visual Basic Functions like file opening and saving, listbox manipulations, string manipulations, date-time functions etc., etc. This will help keep the forum clean.

It would be nice to see the vb code posted. I know with Mark's code you can but he codes his post that way. I think Wayne does as well. They have posted there code.

When you add attachments on other forums you can see a count for the number of times downloaded, on here you don't. Its nice to see the number of times people have looked.

I know you can add a topic smilie but on other forums you can ahow a particular smilie to enable a point.

When showing a url it isn't posted as a click. I know you can code it to achieve this function, but on other forums its automatic.

Maybe I'm missing how to add these points.

That Ask.com flash ad is a pain. It takes up a region of space that is imposed over a large portion of the website, thus creating an invisble object that stands between the page and the cursor. During it's overdone animation sequence of a saw cutting off the Jeeves part of the site name, you can't click on anything in the upper half of the page. Perhaps it has something to do with the z-index. Regardless, it has got to go!

As General Visual Basic section has so many topics, the topics should be divided into further categories.

Categories like Graphics, File Manipulation, String Manipulation, Memory, Forms and different categories for all the basic controls should be introdued. By doing this, it will be easier to search for posts and even post a post.

When a new user/visitor vists the site it would be easier for him/her to browse through the categories and get what he/she wants. It will also be helpful to post-ers. If a post-er is specialised in some part (say Timer) of VB then he can go to Timer control category and will be able to answer the questions. As there are many unanswered topics in this forum, dividing them would help.

When a user posts a new topic he should not be forced to choose a category. Forum Admins and Gods should be allowed to categorise a topic.

Arrrgh...

Have the guys at A1VB sold out to the man? It seems so having witnessed one of the most annoying pop-ups I have ever seen. A Verizon ad superimposes itself on my web browser on every screen I go to. I can't escape it. It's right there in my face, it can't even be moved, and it's in the way. It's like having junkmail stapled to your hand. It's like telemarketer calls coming through your phone on speaker with auto-answer turned on and the volume turned up while tied to a chair at 4:00am when you have to get up at 7:00am to go to work.

I know this site is free and many of us receive help from this free service, but it's also a nice site in general. Don't destroy its quality with you-will-read-this-ad-and-like-it-and-there's-nothing-you-can-do-to-avoid-it pop-ups.

I've always noticed a simple banner, ya know.

just checking this out. seems working good with firefox.
I get a spot upper left of screen that doesn't refresh properly. no big deal.
I have yet to see if can uplaod a zip file from firefox.
anybody do that yet, and does it work or give the unsupported mime type error message?

Any way you could please change the character limit on the signatures. I can barely fit like 10 links in. That's not alot. I don't want to pack it with quotes or anything, I want to post links. Please change it if you can.

Problems with this forum and Firefox browser

I don't like using IE because of all of the security issues so I switched over to Mozilla Firefox which is much safer.

However, I can't seem to post replies unless I use the standard forum view, without all of the text formatting options, like colors, bold, italic, etc. Just a plain textbox.

Is there a solution to this?

Also when I try to attach a .zip file to a message it says the MIME type is not permitted. I switched the MIME type to how it's supposed to be in the registry and it still won't work...

Any ideas?

For some reason i can not see the member names in there posts here at home. But I can at work. The only real deference it that I have dial up and they are on a high speed network.

Just thought we could do a thread here on posting page.

Anyway i'll start. Was just wondering if it was possible to sort out the tabindex when posting. So the focus is on the subject [TAB] focus is on Message body or Message icon. And the same for after you have done the message body, it sets the focus on the 'post' button.

I have been on a couple of message boards where after you post you have to wait 30secs before you can post again. I notice, and I know I am also guilty of this, we have alot of double posting going on. With people not realising the original click on the button actually worked and posting a second time. Will something like this be implemented in the forthcoming upgrade?

OT: Will the site be upgraded at the same time as the forum? I remember someone saying that the site will go through an upgrade soon.
