what's a ODBC ?
it is necessary to install it to do the connection to the database sql server?

Open DataBase Connectivity... No you do not need it to connect to a database, but what you do need to do is learn how to read carefully as you are using VB.NET and posting in the VB6.0 forum which is M$'s old technology prior to .NET tech...
