ok - I found a html page with a VB Script that generates a form in it. On submission of the form, the script then writes an xml file to disk. I'm currently tinkering with it - have it saving html instead of xml, and in the format i need.

It doesn't run smoothly - keeps throwing security messages and warnings at me every time i run it, but it will do for now.

In case anyone else is interested in a similar project, I have recently discovered that a signed java applet is capable of writing client side files from a browser. But there are security risks envoled with this, which is why applets that do this are not readily available.

Until I have more time to code an applet to do this, I'm going to have to struggle on with the irritating vb script.

I will let you all know how it works out when i get it running.

Thanks again for all your help.

fyi -

you will not get rid of the security messages.  there is no way to write information to a person's pc without them have to consent to it by 1) installing an activeX control or 2) acknowledging the risk with a security alert.

good luck, tho.

Just curious if all that code is neccessary. Can't you use regular textfile editing methods to write textfiles on the client computer? If I could get a web service up and running I could find out for myself but while I'm waiting, I figure it wouldn't hurt to know in advance. I need to get into ActiveX controls soon, but are they absolutely neccessary for this purpose?

remember that the FSO is an activeX element and leave create a certificate conscious to the human of your attender. you leave not be healthy to silently create a directory on the someone's pc and then rank a record there without them sightedness an perked substance. you can also not use API calls in vbscript.

I would like to know if there is any scripting language, or API call that can be invoked to pass the text from a text box directly to a text file, without connecting to a network or the internet. The user should be able to type a note or message into a text box, click a button and the text is transferred to a text file.
