Advantages of CSS

Flexibility:- When CSS is combined with that of the functionality of CMS, a healthy amount of flexibility can be programmed into content submission forms. This allows a author, who may not be familiar or be able to understand or edit CSS or HTML code to select the layout of an article or other page they are submitting on-the-fly, in the same form. For example, an author of an article may be able to select the number of columns and whether or not the page or article carries an image. Later this information is passed to the CMS and the program logic evaluates the information and determines how to apply classes and IDs to the HTML elements, therefore styling and positioning them according to the pre-defined CSS for that particular layout type.

Separation of Content and Presentation:- CSS facilitates publication of the content in presentation format based on the normal parameters. Nominal parameters include explicit user preferences, different web browsers, the type of device being used to view the content the location of the user and many other variables.

Bandwidth:- A style sheet is usually stored in the browser cache, and can therefore be used on multiple pages without being reloaded, reducing data transfer over a network.

Site Wide Consistency:- When CSS is used effectively, in terms of inheritance and cascading, a global style sheet can be used to affect and style elements site-wide. If the situation arises that the styling of the elements should need to be changed or adjusted, then these changes can be made simply by editing a few rules in the global style sheet.

Page Reformatting:- With a simple change of one line, a different style sheet can be used for the same page. This has advantages for accessibility, as well as providing the ability to tailor a page or site to different target devices. More than that, devices which are not able to understand the styling still display the content.

hello all,

I'm a newbie here, so I hope I don't upset anybody by posting this here.

I'm currently trying to find a method of writing the contents of a text box in a HTML page, into a text file that is to be stored locally on the user's hard drive. Could anybody share some suggestions or code samples to show how this could be done ?

I had considered cookies, but I want to be able to specify a file and folder to save the information to.

I had also considered linking the form in the webpage to a batch file, which could then write the files, but I also want it to run smoothly, without being asked am I sure I want to run the batch file.

I really want to avoid databases, as they simply make my brain ache.

Overall, I would like to know if there is any scripting language, or API call that can be invoked to pass the text from a text box directly to a text file, without connecting to a network or the internet. The user should be able to type a note or message into a text box, click a button and the text is transferred to a text file.

I feel this is becoming more and more of an important factor for search engines. I believe that the search engines recognize, and appreciate that your website is complying with the latest in webpage standards(unlike Microsoft?s current browser). There is far less data for them to crawl when the CSS information is in a separate file. They don?t have to look at the same styling information over and over again throughout your site. Then there?s the matter of the HTML being coded tableless which also saves greatly on the bandwidth of both the search engine crawler, and your own web hosting plan. There are advantages on both your side and the side of the search engine. It never hurts to keep the search engines happy.

Setting Screensaver with VBscript

I'm trying to develop a script that will check to see if a screensaver is enabled, and if not, set it to the default Windows XP screensaver. So far, I've assembled quite a conglomeration of code using different sources, and I've worked out several errors, but this particular one I can't quite get past:

Really Simple VBScript problem (Embarassingly Simple)

So, I have a need to write a small script in the form of a web page so that we can poll it from an IVR system that will go out to a database, find a value based on an argument passed to the web page script, and return an XML response. However, I don't quite know how to pass arguments to a web page that's running a vbscript in the first place. It would be similar to this:

I know, simple, right? I'm not really a developer anymore so I'm kind of rusty. Any ideas?

I am a rookie to the web programming domain. I only have some basic scientific programming skills (read: writing simple if-else and for loop programs). I wanted to embark on programming a web search engine from scratch. I figured it would not only help me improve my programming skills but will also give me something tangible to evaluate my progress.

I was wondering if any of you could give me pointers to the right resources. I looked up amazon for books on "search engine programming" and got nothing. Obviously I am doing something completely wrong. If you could point out a website or a book or anything of that sort where I could go from scratch.

I have working knowledge of python, perl, C++ and Java.

I don't even know what parse means. I'm guessing it refers to processing because that's how everyone seems to use it when talking about moving through a specially formatted file type.

I need a way to parse some XML. I've heard something about it being in a specific class type in .NET. Of course until I can get the program up and running again I don't have time to look it up myself. So I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it.

Too bad .NET can't compile to run on a plain win32 platform. I'd love to be able to use such a class without requiring my users to download the .NET framework. Oh well.

Runtime Error 5: Invalid procedure call or argument

Hi all,
I am trying to extract the texts from a web page and write it to a text file.
I am able to read the text by using internetexplorer.application but when I try to write it to the notepad sometimes it gives Runtime Error 5: Invalid procedure call or argument.
Microsoft VB Help says that it happens bcoz of "An argument probably exceeds the range of permitted values."

Can someone help me to get rid of this problem.

Creating a search in multiple fields

I have used your search-keyword.php tutorial and have tried to modify it to allow for search in multiple fields. I have a table that list the following:

Except for the "id" all are names of individuals and can show up in all fields and more than one field ie J Smith can be a mentee1 and a junior3.

VB.NET Soap Method Not Exposed

I am writting a program that communicates with Amazon Seller services. One of the tasks involved is the uploading and downloading of XML documents containting order information. Below is the example source code provided by Amazon for vb.net. I finally got most of the code working, but I am stuck on one issue. A method is not exposed that should be. The Attachments method is not available for the RequestSoapContext method. I am at a loss as to why this might be the case. Unfortunately the documentation and support from Amazon is pretty much nonexisting. There was a post regarding this on the Amazon Developer Forum, but it did not fix my problem. They post stated that the issue was with Web Services 2.0 not being installed correctly. They suggested that I uninstall Web Services 2.0 and reinstall selecting the Developer option. This didn't corrrect the problem. Below is the sample code that I'm trying to get to work. Any help or ideas in this would GREATLY be appreciated. This is my first Soap project so I'm kinda at a loss as to what could be causing my problem of the Attachment method not getting exposed.

How to pass an object argument from classic ASP to C# dll

We have a C# dll and I need to call some of the object methods from a classic ASP. I have managed to register the dll correctly using regasm.exe. I am also able to create the object, and call methods that take string arguments and/or return strings. However, I need to call other methods that take object arguments/return object arguments. This does not work at all. Any ideas on how the mapping works between C# objects and ASP data structures?

I also have the choice of re-write the c# dll to a VB.NET dll, but I don't know if that will make the mapping easier?

I think my questions is: how to pass in (and out) complicate data structures (e.g. objects, hashtables, structs, etc) from classic ASP to .NET (VB or C#).

I have an old Toshiba laptop that all of a
sudden crashed a while back, and when I
came to start the computer again windows xp
was gone. Dont ask how, cause I have no
clue. I took out the recovery disks that came
with the laptop, and inserted the first one, and
while it was in the process of installing xp, an
error msg appeared saying that the recovery
disk is corrupt or something similar, so i
closed the laptop, opened it again and tried to
use the CD again yet the same msg appeared.
I dont really know what to do now. I just
downloaded windows xp service pack 3 (from
another pc), and im going to need detailed,
step by step help from anyone in order to
reinstall it on my old Toshiba. Please help,

Used WSDL Tool to create a file named “Racing.vb”.

I then added this file to my project by using Project>Add Existing Item.

This added a file to my Solution Explorer Window named “Racing.vb”

From this I wrote the following code as the request for the web service:

Dim objMSInfo As New Racing()

Dim MSResult As String

MSResult = objMSInfo.MeetingSummary(myKey, strJ, strRD, strTC)

As soon as I had finished typing the last line of this code, I got the error message in the Error Box, saying:

Value of type 'System.Xml.XmlElement' cannot be converted to 'String'.

So figuring that the returned values could not be declared as a String, I decided to change my code a little and see if I could return it as an Xml Document, so I changed my code to the following:

Dim objMSInfo As New Racing()

Dim MSResult As New XDocument

MSResult = objMSInfo.MeetingSummary(myKey, strJ, strRD, strTC)

This brings back the same error message, only this time saying:

Value of type ‘System.Xml.XmlElement’ cannot be converted to ‘XDocument’

So I am now resigned to asking for the help of someone who has been through this and can see where I am going wrong. I am migrating up from VB4, which I learnt a few years ago now, to VB.Net using the 2008 Express edition, and so I am a bit lost with this Xml Stuff.

Oh and for clarification, this is the structure of the data that should be coming back from the MeetingSummary request:

Can anyone shed some light on how I can display this information in my program. I intend to declare each element as a variable so that I can display them in a particular way. I can also paste the entire Racing.vb file if needed, however it is a really big file and so for now to save space I will not include it unless needed.

Dear All,

I am new with the concept of hardware interface.
My requrement is, suppose one weighing machine is there. We have multiple LT terminals that are connected to PC. Each has own IP adress. Each terminal sends the weighing data string(containing net weight and gross weight).

Means I have to pull that net weight and gross weight reading data in to my software.

So for that what are the thing to be require for that harware interface. And is some coding required plz send me.

Plz explain me step by step.

ASP Problem with oracle reserved words while insertion time.

I am trying to insert record into the oracle from asp that table contains date field (as field name and data type is date/Time), whenever I am trying to insert record in to that table from asp it is saying table or view doesn't exists. here I am giving the correct data,parameters and table name . same query when I was trying to insert in a database its executing successfully from Toad.

Please suggest me.

Does this website really need 30 or so categories? I am thinking you don't need to different Photography sections, you don't need to list 15 railroads on the Class 1 section. Just put one Category that says Class 1 railroads. For the tourist Railroads and Museums section just put the one Category that says "Tourist Railroads and Museums". You know where I am getting at with this. You don't need a whole section for every topic of railroading, but your missing one Narrow Gauge Railroading. I am not trying to mean, it just takes me 3 minutes to scroll the whole page, I think it would be more user friendly so people didn't have to go back and click every Category. I think 10 max is enough.

Unix Server error

Hi, I've this problem in accessing the subfolder in my Unix Server via FTP using VB 2005. I was able to connect with its home folder. But when I will try to go into its subfolder, the server will return an error "<550> file unavailable". If I use 3rd Party FTP Client, there is no problem at all. Any thoughts?

but can't figure out how to create a folder

Generally we are using the following code to update using ADODB

But, we are facing sql injection problem. so what we can't pass value directly to query. So I have changed to

Sir, I am doing a project of Multi-Level marketing website using ASP and MS-Access. (not ASP.NET)

There is a Downline Page where it show downline members of a specific members

for ex. (table : member )

Ref_id | Mem_id | Mem_name | Mem_address | join_date

if i want to view the downline of 1001 it will show all record data of as it is the root.

if i want to view downline of 1002
1005,1006,1009 will be return as they are co-related data.

but the problem is when I am doing "select * from member where ref_id='" & ref_id & "' "
it returns only the first level i.e.1002,1003 & 1004. But I want all the inter-related data together, If 1002 or 1003 or 1004 has any further downline.

The table structure may need to be change.

As I am new to this I heartly pray for a kind help from all my seniors and experts.
