I have Visual Web Developer 2010 Express Edition. When I create a New WebSite, it creates two folders in the location. If the name is BasicWebSite, it created folders like BasicWebSite and BasicWebSite(2), and the second one is open and active. How can I rectify this?

I need to create a login access form using ASP.NET. The code i'm using is VB.NET. This access form has to link to my SQL Server database. I need to validate the username and password from the database and also the access right to either admin or user.

The user will launch the page and it will display the relevant info of the pc the page is launched on.

I tried going the usercontrol rout, code is easy, but no one can help me with displaying the usercontrol on a page.

i'm trying to display some values in Gridview. but i don't know how many columns i need to display. at run time only i will come to know how many columns i need to display. it depends up on the values from Database. so i'm creating columns dynamically and adding to gridview. till that it works fine. but i want some columns value to be hyperlink. so i need to create some columns hyperlink dynamically.

Database table looks like this

I need to provide the same functionality that the asp site management does, so that admins can edit/update/delete users. I know there is a create user wizard that works in the same way as it's done on the site managment tool does, and I've seen the edit functionlity on other pages within the app itself so admins can access, but can anyone please tell me where/how I can hook this into an app page? I can't seem to find anywhere!

ASP stands for Active Server Pages. ASP.NET is the next generation of ASP. After the introduction of ASP.NET, old ASP is called 'Classic ASP'.

Most of the engines place added relevancy on keywords found in the name of the page, or the URL. When naming your pages, try to name your pages after your keyword phrases.
Classic ASP uses vb script for server side coding. Vb Script is not supported any more in ASP.NET. Instead, ASP.NET supports more languages including C#, VB.NET, J# etc. VB.NET is very similar to vb script, so it should be easy for old Visual Basic or ASP programmers to switch to VB.NET and ASP.NET

VB Script is a simple scripting language, where as VB.NET or C# are modern, very powerfull, object oriented programming languages. Just for that reason, you will be able to write much more robust and reliable programs in ASP.NET compared to ASP.

In classic ASP, there was no server controls. You have to write all html tags manually. ASP.NET offers a very rich set of controls called Server Controls and Html Controls. It is very easy to drag and drop any controls to a web form. The VS.NET will automatically write the required HTML tags automatically for you.

Dear all .Netters,

I develop intranet application using ASP.Net 2.0 with VB language.
I have some modules that necesarry send messages to users.
Currently, my Bulletin Board shows pop up windows if there are messages to users.
It reads SQL Server table every 5 minutes using Web Service.

For others modules (GA-Payment, User ID Maintain),
I have planned to use Net Send function that provides by SQL Server with activating Job Schedule.
But i hesitant, if it could decrase my SQL Server or my Server performance.

So, do you have experiences how to send message to users with ASP.Net ?

Hi, I have been developing a home automation project for my dissertation written in visual basic.net and using an USB input/output interface board to interact with the real world. The design itself is quite crude but it is just really a proof of concept.

The project so for has been developed purely in visual basic as that is what I know, however a new requirement is that I need to present this also with a web based element, whilst the existing Visual Basic form still runs.

That may sound a bit confusing but basically I want a system that can be fully controlled locally (ie on the PC the usb device is attached to) using a visual basic form. But want some limited features also available through a web browser (such as just switching light on or off) so control of the home can be done on the move.

Thanks in advance for any advice people have to offer as I have done a fair bit of searching around but am still at a loss.

Searching A String, For A Match From Another String

So what I have is two strings.. Each string is a comma seperated value of two digit states. Like this

String 1:
"NV,CA,AZ"

String 2:
"ND,HI,CA"

What I need to do, is write some C# to check string 2, for a match in string 1. Meaning, If a state is listed in String 1, it should not appear in String 2. I have used "foreach" statements, but only for list boxes. I can seperate the strings, but am having an issue writing the code to compare the two. Here's what I got so far, it will check the first thing in each list, but will not go onto the second or third? How can I change the int inside String1[0] to +1 for every item in it's list?

Edit:
It would be awesome if the code could find the position of the match in the second string, and remove it. So if it finds CA from String1, in String2, it would remove it from String2.

In what is usually called a "hard" real-time operating system, if the calculation could not be performed for making the object available at the designated time, the operating system would terminate with a failure. To some extent, almost any general purpose operating system such as Microsoft's Windows 2000 or IBM's OS/390 can be evaluated for its real-time operating system qualities. That is, even if an operating system doesn't qualify, it may have characteristics that enable it to be considered as a solution to a particular real-time application problem.

In general, real-time operating systems are said to require: multitasking, Process threads that can be prioritized and a sufficient number of interrupt levels

Real-time operating systems are often required in small embedded operating systems that are packaged as part of micro devices. Some kernels can be considered to meet the requirements of a real-time operating system. However, since other components, such as device drivers, are also usually needed for a particular solution, a real-time operating system is usually larger than just the kernel.

xml programming and vb.net

Hello guys

I am vb.net beginner developer majorly on ASP.NET.

Can anyone help me on how to I include header information before the main body/content of an xml file, where the header will be read from the same file. For example, I want to have company's name, address, phone, document print date in the head section before displaying the list of the customers (both the header and the content is contained in single a text file).

Secondly, I want a user to select the text file (which must conform with the format to be used to display the xml file) from his/her system directory and display the path on a textbox before converting it to xml file. How do I go about it?

Hello,

I hope this is the right place for this question that is bordering me for quite some time now.

I'm building an extranet which connects to a connector like this:

strOutput = myConnector.GetData("COMP", "Username", "Password", "", "Recordset", Filter)
Dim objDataSet As DataSet = GetDataSetObject(strOutput)

this set returns a lot of data with no sorting or limiting possibilities. It's very simple to load this in a gridview or dataview. That's not what i need. I need to sort the data and i.e. display the one on top or the top 10.
I want to display the results in labels or textboxes.

Can anyone explain or give me an example how to get there?

The Object Dilemma

This must be a time old question to do with Modularisation, encapsulation and RE-USABILITY.

I have an asp.net 3.5 vb.net intranet application.

I have a Job class. i have a Client class and employee class etc etc
I am using the dataset designer, and formviews.

I have a formview for my Job object. A job has a clientID. But in my formview, when i display a job, I want to show the ClientName obviously. This can be done in the formview Edit Template, by linking the ClientID field to a datasource (or object datasource)that has the Client table, the a simple INNER JOIN to get the ClientName. Easy, no code, nice.
But I dont want to have to go to the data access layer to get the ClientName. I want to be able to call the Client object like Client.Name.

I guess I could do this with a Webservice (or WCF which i havent used yet). But this seems like a big overhead using SOAP and HTTP just to get a ClientName with an INNER JOIN. We have 100 users and the clientname will be getting accessed all the time.

I guess I could use a stored procedure, but how would I link this to my Formview to show the ClientName. When Editing or Inserting a JOB, I still want the user to be able to select the ClientName form a dropdown which is linked to ClientID. So I still need a datasource right.

LINQ ???, but

I want my Client object to be in a separate application, that any other application can access, so no need to redo the DAL everytime. Yes, Im trying to do a framework.
If the Client object has fucntion that require logic, these i would obviously use a webservice or WCF, but for simple INNER JOINs and stuff, I'm stuck at the best way to be able to call these form any other application in formviews or the like.
